Joy of Luck
As you may have noticed, I had a blast participating in Kelly Willette’s Joy of Love online photography workshop during the month of February. Having the daily prompts and camera tips really rejuvenated my photography, made me more familiar with the settings on my cameras, and spurred me to finally figure out how to use actions in Photoshop Elements. Since then, I’ve found myself picking up my camera more often, feeling free to snap self-portraits of me and my husband, and tackling the large backlog of unedited photos I’ve been collecting for a long while. (To give you an idea of how bad it is, I recently posted photos of a month-old baby days before her first birthday. And those aren’t my oldest unedited photos. Oops!)
Here’s one of my new all-time favorite shots of John and me, taken as a self-portrait with my point-and-shoot camera at his brother and sister-in-law’s baby shower earlier this month, where I put my new-found photo inspiration to use. I also love the way I processed it with PE actions, which turned a so-so photo in mediocre light into something that really captured a fun moment.
I have to admit that while I was loving every minute of the Joy of Love class, I was thankful February was the shortest month when I started getting behind in the 3rd and 4th weeks. I finally caught up, but it wasn’t as much fun when I wasn’t posting on the day of the theme. So, I’m extremely pleased to be signed up for the free Joy of Luck workshop Willette is doing this month. It’s only a week long, so I should be able to power through it with no problem. And I’m looking forward to tackling this one with different priorities (last time, I was taking photos of my dog, which got challenging at times—this time, I feel like I can be more free with my subjects.)
