Day 21: hands
Dorsey’s footpads are roughed up from walking on concrete sidewalks in the city. But there’s something beautiful about their texture, and the tufts of hair poking out between them like grass growing through concrete. I love the different textures in this black and white photo of his front paw.
Those textures weren’t coming through as well in color, but I do like the blue of the rug and the selective focus in this outtake:
Dorsey has always used his paws as if they’re human hands with opposable thumbs. I’ve seen other dogs use their paws to hold on to toys, but never with the grasp and dexterity of Dorsey Dog. I’ve seen him use his hands to pull the Kong away while he’s holding the bone in his mouth; that’s pretty incredible hand strength for a dog.
