Day 18: going out
My plans to take a fun pic of Dorsey and I going out for a picnic on Friday during the gorgeous weather were foiled by a freelance project and the need to go shopping for a baby shower present for my brother-in-law and his wife. Then the weather got crazy—high winds and a return to cold temps—so his photo for Friday’s Joy of Love theme is temporarily on hold. I did, however, go out with my husband to a special and very photogenic event: the Asian Pacific American Bar Association of Philadelphia’s annual Lunar New Year Banquet, which includes a ten-course dinner of Chinese food and a traditional Lion Dance performance by local kids.
I decided to go with a storyboard of four photos for this one to capture the pageantry and excitement of the Lion Dance. Though the lesson specified that we could hand off the camera to a stranger, I managed to take this photo of us myself, thanks to the wide-angle lens on my Lumix point & shoot. I’m always amazed at how good the self-portraits turn out on it, even without a tripod. Note that my husband still thinks it’s funny to pout in every photo. Luckily, I’ve gotten used to it over the years.
Addendum: Several days later, I finally took a photo of Dorsey “going out.” Since it’s winter, he mainly goes out to take walks. I liked how this photo captured the motion of the stroll.
This outtake illustrates the other component of his walks—sniffing and marking all the fresh snow.
